With the feeling of a circa 1900 bar and full menu of tavern-style offerings with incredibly low prices, Shorty’s will soon become Court Avenue’s true neighborhood meeting place. Additionally, Shorty’s will be the only bar in Des Moines to serve the original recipe Schlitz beer on tap.

The menu includes thoughtfully prepared comfort foods such as Hot New York Pastrami sandwiches, Meatloaf, Homemade Italian Sausage, Frito pies, Beer Battered Fish and much more. Shorty’s will also be the launching point of what may soon become one of the most popular new comfort food dishes in Iowa, Chicken Fried Turkey Tenderloin. There are also nods to “Old School Milwaukee,” home of Schlitz Beer in the décor as well as the menu with items such as deep fried Wisconsin cheese curds and a Milwaukee Sausage and Cheese plate.
